New ACTIVE PLACE WALES Website
The Sports Council for Wales has agreed a three-year contract with The Leisure Database Company, leisure market intelligence experts, to supply and maintain sports and physical activity facility data for its new Active Places Wales website.
Active Places Wales will be launched in the early summer of 2008 and will contain facility information for around 700 sites including public sports centres, athletics tracks, golf courses, ski slopes, indoor tennis and squash courts, indoor bowls, ice rinks and private health clubs.
As a joint initiative of the Welsh Assembly Government and the Sports Council for Wales, Active Places Wales aims to provide information to the general public and to organisations about the extensive range and accessibility of facilities and centres for sports and physical activities throughout Wales.
John Hinton, Information Officer at Sports Council for Wales commented:
“Active Places Wales will play three vital roles: firstly acting as a signposting service to inform the public where they can participate in sports and physical activities; secondly to help increase participation and thirdly to assist organisations, responsible for planning future facilities, understand the current supply of facilities through the comprehensive information about our sports centres and private health clubs in Wales.”
“We chose The Leisure Database Company to be our partners in this new initiative due to their experience in auditing fitness and sports facilities. Their professional approach to data collection and organization together with their experience in supplying similar data to Sport England made them our first choice”.
Jamie Buck, Project Manager at The Leisure Database Company said:
“The Leisure Database Company is delighted to have been selected as partners for Active Places Wales. As sporting enthusiasts ourselves, we are proud of our leading edge sports domain knowledge. What sets us apart is our thorough approach to data collection, sending researchers out to sites where necessary, combined with our own passion for getting things right!”
“Having successfully collected and supplied data to Sport England for their Active Places site for over four years we have a proven track record in sports data management. With dedicated resources, our sports data collection system can respond rapidly to our client’s needs. The scalability in TLDCi, our database system, also means we can offer clients additional facility information, almost instantly.”
